If you’re like me then winter isn’t your favourite season. During these colder months, I prefer to hibernate in my cottage and trade my typical social activities to stay indoors with a warm cup of coffee, socks and a series binge. My reservations about a winter getaway were pleasantly put aside when I had an opportunity to stay at the popular Forum Homini hotel. If romance is what you’re after then look no more.
My first visit to the hotel was a charming surprise. Tucked away in the outskirts of Joburg, the best part is that the hotel is its location which was a manageable 1-hour drive from home. (N3, N12, N1, 14th avenue, Hendrik Potgieter road, road, N14, turn into the first right and right again to reach the destination)
With a number of establishments for guests to choose from around Muldersdrift and Magaliesburg, Forum Homini has gained its reputation by doing these things exceptionally well:
- Incorporating historical architecture into the design of the chalets.
- The fine dining experience and quality service.
After a brief drive through the gravel from the main road, I arrived at the hotel and was struck by the different shades of the brown highveld grass which is typical for this time of year. I received friendly service and was attended too from the moment I arrived where my dreamy, cosy chalet was perfect for my winter escape. The room was lovely and warm with a fireplace keeping the cold winter chill at bay. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary sherry in the rooms upon arrival with some savoury snacks to nibble on while settling into the home away from home. I was also treated to a relaxing aromatherapy massage in my room ahead of dinner feast which was to follow.
